- Your belly, thigh or upper arm
- clear of the belly button
- 2 inches
- a different spot for each dose
- Rotate
HGH injection areas
For each brand, somatropin labels list the injection areas; follow the leaflet included with the pen or vial you use.
- Belly: keep at least 2 inches from the belly button, in a spot where skin can be pinched.
- Front or outer thigh: use the middle, between your knee and hip.
- Back of the upper arm: this is easier if someone else gives the shot.

Injecting HGH one step at a time
- Clean your hands with soap and water, then wipe the spot with an alcohol swab.
- Pull your dose up to the right line; if you're unsure, check the units with the calculator.
- Pinch a fold of skin, insert the needle at the angle your prescriber showed you, then push the plunger slowly.
- Remove the needle, then press the spot lightly with a cotton ball. Put the syringe in a sharps container.
Varying where you inject
Each time, use a spot at least an inch from your last one. Lumps or pits under the skin become less likely when you rotate spots. Don't use skin that's sore, bruised, red or scarred.

Questions people often ask
Does the place where I inject HGH matter?
Below the skin, the usual injection areas are the belly, thigh and upper arm. Choose one area and rotate the spots inside it, unless your label or prescriber tells you otherwise.
Should I pinch my skin?
Check with your prescriber; the labels on our list leave that choice to them. Many people use short insulin needles and pinch a fold of skin.
