Our work
We work out the math using your vial, the added water and the dose set by your prescriber or label. We never recommend a dose, and we don't sell anything.
The math explained
Strength: divide the mg in the vial by the mL of water added for a mg per mL result.
To find units to draw: dividing your dose by that strength gives mL, and 1 mL is 100 units on a U-100 syringe.
- The vial contains 5 mg.
- Water added: 2 mL.
- Strength: 2.5 mg/mL.
- 0.1 mL for a 250 mcg dose.
- On a U-100 syringe, 10 units.
The source of the numbers
- DailyMed FDA labels: doses on labels and storage
- Injection safety guidance from CDC: the 28-day rule once a vial is opened
- USP: the standard shown on labels for bacteriostatic water
- On each page, the product listings show vial sizes and prices.
