Most of these listings are the same Hospira product in a 30 mL vial, so what sets them apart is mainly where you shop. The table lists prices before tax and shipping, along with the cost per mL. That is the fairest way to compare one single vial against a full box of 25.

Those three pharmacy figures come from GoodRx, so a prescription is needed to buy at those prices. The other sellers are medical supply shops and peptide shops that list the vial openly.

Why a 10 mL vial costs nearly as much as a 30 mL one

Two 10 mL vials from peptide shops sit at 14.00 USD and 14.99 USD, right near the 15.00 USD that Peptide Test charges for a whole 30 mL vial. Measured per mL, the small vials cost roughly 3 times as much, so the 30 mL size works out better if you will use it.

The snag is timing. Bacteriostatic water comes in a multiple-dose vial, meaning you can draw from it more than once to mix or dilute a medicine, as the Hospira label describes. Once you've opened it, though, the clock starts. The CDC advises that once a multiple-dose vial is opened or punctured, you should mark the opening date on it and discard it after 28 days, unless the manufacturer states some other date. That means a large vial you cannot finish within 28 days is not really cheaper after all. The CDC injection safety page explains the 28 day rule.

Is a box of 25 a good buy?

Medex Supply offers 25 of the 30 mL vials together for USD 272.95. That works out to 0.36 USD per mL, compared with 0.63 USD per mL for one vial bought from the same shop. You only come out ahead if you will get through all 25 vials, because each one must be used within 28 days of opening. Keep the unopened ones at room temperature, around 20 to 25 °C (68 to 77 °F), as the label states.

Mountainside Medical has the same 25-vial box priced at 539.00 USD, which comes to 0.72 USD per mL, and that is more than what one vial costs at several other sellers. A box is not automatically the cheaper choice, so it pays to check the per mL number before placing an order.

What the money buys

Bacteriostatic water is sterile water with a small amount of benzyl alcohol added. The alcohol stops germs from growing between uses, which is why you can use the same vial more than once. Most listings carry a product that Hospira, Inc. of Lake Forest, Illinois distributes, and Hospira is a Pfizer company. The Hospira label lists 20 mL and 30 mL multiple-dose vials.

That same label bears a boxed warning: newborns must not be given it, since benzyl alcohol can be toxic to them.

Choosing between bacteriostatic and plain sterile water

The plain USP Sterile Water for Injection looks similar on the surface, yet it has no preservative in it whatsoever. It is supplied only in single-dose containers, so a single use is all you get and the remainder goes in the bin, as its label explains. When you have to draw from the same vial day after day, that is the job bacteriostatic water does, and its preservative is the reason an opened vial can stay usable for as long as 28 days.

How these prices were gathered

Every price here comes from the seller's own page as it stood on the day we checked, and none of them include tax or shipping. The pharmacy numbers are GoodRx coupon prices, and a prescription is required to use them. We do not sell bacteriostatic water ourselves, and we do not endorse any seller, so compare using the per mL column and look at the seller's own page for today's figure before you buy, since prices change.
