hCG calculator
Enter your hCG vial size, how much water you added, and your dose to find the units to draw on your U-100 insulin syringe.
This is for reference only. Your dose comes from your prescriber or the product label; we only convert it to units here.

The math behind hCG
Divide the amount in the vial by the water to get the strength. Add 1 mL of water to a 5,000 IU vial and every mL carries 5,000 IU. Work out your dose divided by that strength for mL, then multiply by 100 to get the units for a U-100 syringe.
A 1,000 IU dose from that vial comes to 0.2 mL, or 20 units.
a quick look at hCG units
| Your dose | 5,000 IU vial + 1 mL | 10,000 IU vial + 2 mL |
|---|---|---|
| 250 IU | 5 units | 5 units |
| 500 IU | 10 units | 10 units |
| 1,000 IU | 20 units | 20 units |
| 1,500 IU | 30 units | 30 units |
| 2,000 IU | 40 units | 40 units |
| 2,500 IU | 50 units | 50 units |
| 5,000 IU | 100 units | 100 units |
Each cell gives the line you draw to on a U-100 syringe, matching that vial and water.
Does hCG have FDA-approved status?
Pregnyl, Novarel and generic chorionic gonadotropin are FDA-approved, in USP vials of 5,000 and 10,000 units; a prescription is required. The steps we show come only from the FDA label; every other vial gets its dose from your prescriber.
Questions people ask
How much water goes into a 5,000 IU hCG vial?
You choose the water amount; it only affects how strong each mL is. Adding 1 mL gives you 5,000 IU in every mL; when you add more water, each unit holds less, so small doses are easier to measure.
How long can mixed hCG be kept?
According to the Novarel label, after you mix it with bacteriostatic water, which contains benzyl alcohol 0.9%, refrigerate it and use it within 30 days.
